“The solitary hot tub under a thousand stars and milky
way, warm hospitality and a sun filled day of hiking ahead.
This, I’d say, is Nirvana!”
– Marilyn, Anchorage, Alaska
“It was so much fun to stay with spirits
of the Apaches in the Stronghold. The night time Jacuzzi
under the stars was a thrill for all of us. The boys slept
peacefully and warm. We have visited the stronghold multiple
times, it was nice not to have to leave at the end of
the day but have 2 days to spend. Thank you for care and
attention & beautiful surroundings & yummy breakfast!”
– Cole, Heather, Nico
& Nathan, Elhton, MD
“We feel privileged to share your little piece of
‘heaven-on-earth’, the quiet, space, scenery,
hot tub and yurt are memorable as are the night skies,
the breakfasts and the hummingbirds…”
– Mike & Diana,
Oxford, England
“Yesterday we got pretty close to a deer –
he didn’t run away, we all looked at each other
for about 5 minutes; he stamped his foot twice and we
left! We saw a UFO last night, out by the yurt, looked
like a star, wasn’t a plane, moved faster than a
plane and bobbed a little- didn’t disappear for
about 5 minutes… Wow, these 5 minute encounters
out here! It’s been magical.”
– Terry & Jeff, Colorado

WOODLANDS YURT & Breakfast
Luxury Lodging Yurt in a Secluded Mountain Refuge
The yurt provides an opportunity to be present in “nature at its finest” and to fully partake in the magic of the Dragoon Mountains at Cochise Stronghold. A few minutes walk from the main guest house, in a secluded grove of juniper and oak trees, the yurt offers comfort and luxury for a “wilderness experience par excellence”.
The yurt is a traditional structure - a Mongolian style walled tent. It is 30 feet in diameter (706 sq.ft. + loft) and is made of architectural fabric, hi-tech foil insulation, fir lattice & bean. The floor is made of pine.
It comfortably sleeps up to ten people with a:
- a queen size bed (high quality mattress)
- full size double bed (4” quality foam mattress)
- two deluxe single beds (both high quality mattresses)
- In the loft, is a double mattress and several thermo-rest sleeping pads
The yurt is heated with a propane heater and cooled with an evaporative cooler, an overhead fan circulates the air. The design is ingenious, in the summer hot air rises through a dome which opens and closes. There is electricity inside the yurt and running water just outside from a garden hose.
Children adore the yurt, but young children can stay only if attended by a responsible adult at all times. Children must be over the age of 8 to stay.
Flashlights, sleeping bags (if you are local and have them), coolers, water bottles, camping gear, bathing suits for the hot tub, field guides...
Just a short distance from the yurt is a beautiful fire pit for your enjoyment and campfire cooking. Also a fully-equipped cook shack is available for easy meal preparation. However, as we are a wilderness location food is not allowed inside the yurt. We wish to avoid any potential problems with insects, skunks, ringtail cats and mice. An outdoor cook station can easily be set up.
We have just installed a brand new deluxe bathroom (shower, vanity and flush toilet) in our cook shack building. This is just a minute walk from the yurt. There is also a solar shower next to the hot tub and a water hose just outside the yurt door.
The hot tub is available to yurt guests for your private use whenever available. It is a wonderful place to stargaze our dark night skies. Showers are required of everyone prior to use.
We think the yurt is a “great deal” at $129.00 per night (double occupancy) for a minimum 2 night stay. This includes a full gourmet, hot breakfast, linens, warm blankets, quilts and lots of wood for an outside campfire. For additional persons please add $25.00 per person/night.
